Georgia parole board to host event for crime victims

By The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — The state parole board plans to meet with crime victims at an event in east Georgia later this month.

The State Board of Pardons and Paroles has scheduled a victims visitors' day at Augusta Technical College on April 24.

The event is meant to give crime victims a chance to meet with parole board members and staff to talk about the impact of the crime and to ask questions about the parole process in confidential meetings.

Board Chairman Terry Barnard says in a news release that information provided can be important when the board is making a parole decision.

Victims are asked to schedule an appointment by contacting the Georgia Office of Victim Services by April 23. Victims will also be able to register to receive offender status changes.
