I-85 wreck in Banks County claims life of South Carolina man

The Georgia State Patrol has released information on one of two fatal wrecks that happened on Interstate 85 in Banks County Saturday afternoon.

In the 1:45 p.m. wreck on I-85 northbound near mile marker 153, a motorcyclist died after his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer truck.

Michael E. Muller, 67, of Seneca, S.C., was operating his 2010 Can-Am Spider three-wheel motorcycle northbound behind a 2017 Freightliner with a 53-foot box trailer, according to Cpl. M.D. Patterson of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.

The motorcycle was traveling behind the tractor-trailer, then changed lanes to the left and attempted to pass the truck, according to Patterson.

As Muller accelerated the motorcycle, he lost control of the vehicle and its right front wheel struck the left rear wheel of the trailer.

After impact, Muller’s motorcycle veered off the left shoulder of the roadway into the median, where Muller was thrown from the vehicle and suffered a fatal injury.

Muller was transported by Banks County Emergency Medical Services to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Patterson.

The truck was driven by Paul E. Dickerson, 64, of Waldron, Mich., who was not injured.

No charges will be filed, Patterson said.
