Collins: Democrats dive deeper into their 'partisan impeachment charade'

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Congressman Doug Collins, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, says Democrats "dove deeper into their partisan impeachment charade" Thursday with the passage of a resolution authorizing the House to conduct a presidential impeachment inquiry.

"They promised Americans they would only drag the country into an impeachment if it was bipartisan," the Gainesville Republican said.  "They broke that promise, and their effort to feign fairness and transparency is anemic at best.

Collins added that the resolution "isn’t about the Constitution — it’s about control. It’s not about fairness — it’s about winning. It’s not about finding the facts — it’s about Democrats’ shredding procedure in order to stack the deck against a president they hate."

He said it guarantees the president no due process rights unless Democrats are inclined to grant them, declaring, "Americans want Democrats to return to legislating, but Speaker Pelosi’s caucus turned a deaf ear to them. Instead, 231 Democrats voted to continue a covert process to undo a national election and nullify the will of the American people.”

Thursday's vote was on the procedures lawmakers will follow as weeks of closed-door interviews with witnesses evolve into public committee hearings and — almost certainly — votes on whether the House should recommend President Trump's removal from office.

All voting Republicans opposed the package. Every voting Democrat but two supported it.
