H.E.A.T. unit receives grant for a fourth year

A joint law enforcement arm of Gainesville and Hall County will continue to target aggressive drivers thanks to a federal grant.

Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch said the Governor's Office of Highway Safety approved the monies totaling $103,048.

The Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic or H.E.A.T. unit focuses on reducing the number of impaired crashes and targets aggressive drivers and is made up up of two Hall County deputies and one Gainesville officer.

The funding will be used to cover the salary and benefits of 3 certified officers and cover fuel costs and maintenance for their vehicles through September 30, 2020.

It's the fourth year the unit has been in operation.
