By B.J. Williams
The man who was shot by Gainesville police officers last week on West Avenue has died from his wounds.

GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles confirmed the death of 35-year-old Raphael Michael Flores. His body is at the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.

The Hall County Coroner's Office said Flores died Sunday, Oct. 6. Flores had been hospitalized since the shooting on Sept. 30.

Flores was confronted by police after he apparently brandished a knife at medical personnel who tried to help him when he fell to the ground after walking into a truck on West Avenue. Authorities said when Flores lunged at officers with the knife, he was shot.
