Dacula Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks died Thursday morning after battling cancer.
A life-long resident of Dacula, Wilbanks served as mayor twice, according to the AJC.
Wilbanks was hospitalized before Christmas.
He served his first term as mayor in the 1970s and returned to the seat again in 2002.
Wilbanks current term was set to expire in 2021.
