SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey and Army linebacker Kenneth Brinson are semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
The two were nominated as the best scholar-athletes on their respective teams. Schools are limited to one nominee each and candidates must be a senior or graduate student in the final year of playing eligibility. Other requirements are a GPA of at least 3.2 as well as outstanding football ability as a first-team player with strong leadership and citizenship traits.
The trophy comes with a $25,000 post-graduate scholarship. Dungey, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Brinson, of Kennesaw, Georgia, also have the chance to receive an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship, which is awarded to each of the finalists for the coveted award.
Finalists will be announced on Halloween and the winner will be announced at the National Football Foundation's annual awards dinner in December in New York City.
