A Madison County man is dead following a one-car accident on Athens Highway (US 129) near Gaines Mill Road late Thursday morning.
The Georgia State Patrol said Jana Lynn York of Winder was driving on Athens Highway just before noon when she traveled off the road, overcorrected, hit a sign, traveled down an embankment and then overturned onto the passenger side of the vehicle.
The passenger in the car, identified as Robert Thomas Brooks Jr., 43, Comer died of his injuries.
Charges are pending in the accident, according to State Patrol officials.
Athens Highway southbound was closed for several hours while authorities investigated.
