Toll lanes coming to GA 400

State transportation officials hope new toll lanes on Georgia Highway 400 will help with traffic congestion.

Forsyth County commissioners spoke with DOT spokesman Tim Matthews during a recent work session about the project that includes widening the roadway from the North Springs MARTA station to McFarland Road. He explained the plan saying, "We're not taking away any general purpose lanes. We're widening to the outside and using the two inside lanes for those express lanes, giving you two new outside lanes for general purpose lanes. It's added capacity from that perspective."

Matthews also gave commissioners an idea of what the changes would look like saying, "There will be a buffer separation between express lanes and general purpose lanes. There’s not going to be a physical barrier there, a concrete barrier. There may be some delineated or pylons there just to control movement.”

Residents can express their opinions about the project in September and officials expect construction to begin in 2021.

Transportation officials expect to finish the project within three years.
