Clarkesville public works superintendent leaving to work for Gainesville

CLARKESVILLE — After 15 years with the City of Clarkesville, Public Works Superintendent Jeremy Garmon is leaving for a job with the City of Gainesville.

Garmon’s last day with Clarkesville will be later this month. After that, he will begin work with the City of Gainesville Department of Water Resources.

Garmon will be missed in Clarkesville.

“He’s been with us for 15 years,” Clarkesville City Manager Barbara Kesler told AccessWDUN. “He is a seasoned veteran. He started out in public works. He moved over to the water treatment plant. He’s a Level 1 certified operator for water and for the sewer plant as well, and just really knows so many aspects of the city – especially with distribution and collection and both of the treatment plants, and with public works.”

Garmon said the move to shift supervisor is basically a lateral one for him, but without the level of stress found at his current job.

“It’s a stressful job that he’s been doing for us for the past several years, and I fully respect his decision to take a less stressful position, but he will be sorely missed by the city,” Kesler said.

Kesler said city leaders will be exploring how to proceed with replacing Garmon.

“There are some people in public works that can keep the day to day running until we make a decision on how we’re going to be moving forward,” Kesler said. “That decision has not been made yet.”
