Baseball: Jefferson clinches 8-AAAA crown; North Hall, Lakeview each win

DANIELSVILLE — The Jefferson baseball program rolled past Madison County for an 11-1 win in Danielsville that sealed the Dragons' fourth region title in six seasons on Wednesday.

Lane Watkins earned the win on the mound, pitching a complete game over 6 innings, while allowing just 1 hit and 1 run while striking out 3 batters.

The Dragons (18-8, 11-3 Region 8-4A) scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, leading 11-0 before the Red Raiders finally scored in the bottom of the sixth.

Clayton Jones blasted a home run and doubled as part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate with 3 RBI, while Sammy Elegreet went 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Mason Cooper also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Kade McNally doubled and drove in a run. Justin Cole also had a hit and an RBI, as Jefferson pounded out 13 hits.

Jefferson will play host to Madison County on Friday to wrap the regular season.


NORTH HALL 10,
DAWSON COUNTY 1

The Trojans exploded for 16 hits in storming to the win on Wednesday in Dawsonville.

Charlie Erickson had a home run and 3 RBI to help lead the offensive outburst for North Hall, while Tyler Brooks went 3-for-5 with a triple and 5 RBI. Jackson Dyer also went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI and 2 runs scored, and Caleb Wiley went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Caleb Clark also had two hits and an RBI, while David Seavey had a double.

Clark also picked up the win on the mound, pitching 6 innings while allowing just 3 hits, 1 run and 2 walks. He also struck out 8 batters.

The Trojans, already Region 7-3A champions, wrap the regular season on Friday against Dawson County in Gainesville.


LAKEVIEW 18,
ATLANTA ACADEMY 3

The Lions pounded out the victory on Wednesday for senior night in Gainesville.

JD Roark helped lead Lakeview at the plate with a double, 2 RBI and 2 walks, while Evan Gravitt went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored (both are seniors). Will Edwards also went 2-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI, and Bodie Blackwell went 2-for-2 with a  double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Andrew Estes also went 2-for-2.

Senior Evan Gravitt pitched all 3 innings in earning the win, allowing 2 hits, while striking out 6 batters.

Lakeview next plays host to Towns County in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
