Dahlonega man faces charges in fatal Hall Co. accident

A Dahlonega man is facing a pair of charges for a single-vehicle wreck that killed his passenger Friday morning in the Oakwood area.

Paul Stevens, 21, of Dahlonega was headed south on I-985 when his 2002 Nissan Xterra left the road near the Plainview Road overpass, went into the woods, hit a cement structure and spun into a tree, according to a news release from the Georgia State Patrol.

Stevens told troopers that he fell asleep at the wheel before the accident.

His passenger, 19 year old Dylan Tuthill of Dahlonega, died at the scene.

Stevens has been charged with 2nd-degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain lane.

The accident happened around 7 a.m.
