After refusing to sign citation, Baldwin driver resists and is subdued by officers

BALDWIN — A Cornelia man who refused to sign a traffic citation was arrested after a struggle Saturday night in Baldwin.

“On Saturday night, one of my officers stopped a Dodge truck for speeding,” Baldwin Police Chief Charles Webb told AccessWDUN. “He made contact with the driver and issued him a citation for speeding. The driver refused to sign the citation, even after being advised that he would be arrested if he did not. They continued to try to get him to sign the citation, but he became more and more agitated and resistant.”

The traffic stop took place at U.S. 441 and Willingham Avenue. When the male driver began resisting, two Baldwin police officers and two Cornelia police officers responded.

“When they attempted to remove him from the vehicle, he fought them and they ended up drive stunning him with the taser, after he tried get the taser,” Webb said. “It took four officers to subdue him and get him handcuffed. He refused medical attention on scene.”

In addition to speeding, Chaun Douglas Young, 53, of Cornelia was charged with obstructing law enforcement officers, disorderly conduct and refusing to sign a citation.
