FLOWERY BRANCH — Flowery Branch baseball may not have piled up the offensive stats on Friday but games aren't won by stats -- they're decided by performances like Zander Sechrist's.
The sophomore pitcher put together an impressive complete game outing to help lead the Falcons to a 2-1 win over defending Class 5A champion Loganville at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.
Sechrist scattered 7 hits, yielding just 1 run and 1 walk while also striking out 8 batters to keep the Red Devils at bay.
Loganville pitching yielded just 4 hits and struck out 10 Branch batters -- though TJ Armstrong's triple made a key difference, driving in a run. AJ Gonzalez and Anthony Grutadaurio also each produced a hit and scored arun for the Falcons (10-8, 3-0 Region 85-A), who stayed perfect in region play.
Thanks to Sechrist, it was more than enough against the Red Devils (11-6, 3-2).
Dylan Strickland got the better of the sophomore with a solo home run, but the Falcons minimized the damage.
Flowery Branch travels to Loganville on Monday.
