Pilcher announces run for south Hall school board seat

Gina London Pilcher announced her intent Monday to run for the Hall County Board Education post that represents south Hall County.

Pilcher, a Republican, is the second candidate to announce a campaign for the post 2 seat, being vacated by Brian Sloan at the end of the year.  Mark Pettitt, a Chestnut Mountain Republican, announced last week that he would seek the office.

Pilcher is a graduate of Johnson High and holds a Bachelor of Science from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Georgia.

Pilcher and her husband Tim have lived in south Hall County since 1986. They have four children whom have all been through the Hall County school system.

In 1986 Pilcher began a small business, Homes Extraordinaire, Inc., and designed custom houses until 2009. She also taught drafting at West Hall High from 1993-1998, filled long term substitute positions and an adjunct faculty position at Lanier Technical college. She currently owns and operates Garments & Gifts.

"She believes that every child deserves a quality education that includes rigorous academics, technical and hands on skills, community and civic awareness in order to prepare them for college and the work force," a release from Pilcher's campaign said.  "A top concern for the school system is to improve safety; she feels it will need to be a team effort to utilize all resources available."

According to the campaign, Pilcher believes growth in south Hall County is another concern.

"Growth is inevitable but can be quality and controlled as to not completely overwhelm the education system," the campaign stated.  "Her goal is to continue to create a positive environment where every student has an opportunity to reach their full potential."
