Father, 25, arrested in 5-year-old son's death in Georgia

By The Associated Press

LITHONIA, Ga. (AP) — Police have arrested a 25-year-old man in the death of his 5-year-old son.

DeKalb County police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell tells news outlets the child lived with his grandmother, and his parents arrived from California on Wednesday. Campbell says the boy's mother and grandmother left the house to run errands, and returned home in the evening to find the child dead.

Campbell says there were other children in the home at the time, but they were not the suspect's and were not hurt.

Police would not say how the boy died, but they believe he was intentionally killed.

The father is in custody, but it's unclear if charges have yet been filed.

A chaplain was sent to the scene to counsel officers and the victim's family members.
