Chestnut Mountain Republican to run for Hall County School Board

Mark Pettitt, a Chestnut Mountain Republican, announced Tuesday he will run for the Hall County School Board.

Pettitt is running for Post Two, which is currently being held by Brian Sloan. Sloan is serving out the remainder of his term and will not run for re-election. Pettitt previously ran against Sloan in 2014, losing to the incumbent in a runoff by only 100 votes.

Pettitt is a graduate of Johnson High School and has served as a substitute teacher in Hall County, as well as receiving his Bachelor of Science from the University of North Georgia. He stated in a release he wants to strengthen public schools by working with parents and teachers to find out what works best for each individual classroom and encourage more community involvement.

In the community, Pettitt is a member of the Hall County SPLOST Oversight Panel, serves as the Chairman of the Hall County Library Board of Trustees and is a member of the Gainesville Jaycees. He has been elected twice by the Ninth District Republican Party to the Georgia Republican Party State Committee.
