Soccer: Lakeview girls, Lumpkin boys, Johnson boys, Gainesville boys each prevail

GAINESVILLE — The Lakeview girls soccer team scored with 20 minutes remaining to knock off Lumpkin County 1-0 on Tuesday in Gainesville.  

The Lady Lions' Mary Michael Callahan scored off a deflected corner taken by Meredith Tucker to provide the game's only strike.  

The defensive unit of Jackie Allen, Ellie Kate Madonna, Abigail Child and Maddy Child helped hold off a ferocious Lumpkin County attack.  

Lakeview's Reece Johnson made 20 saves to record the shutout in goal.  

The Lady Lions (1-1) will travel to Flowery Branch on Friday.

The Lady Indians (3-1) will look to bounce back at 4:45 p.m. Saturday against White County in Dahlonega.


GAINESVILLE BOYS 5,
JACKSON COUNTY 1

The Red Elephants (3-0) built a 2-1 halftime lead and rolled to the win on Tuesday in Jefferson.

Pedro Santos and Alexis Salazar each bagged a brace for Gainesville, while Cristian Rodriguez added one goal.

Jackson County scored off a throw-in in the first half.

Gainesville travels to rival Johnson for a non-region showdown at 7:30 p.m. Friday.


NORTH HALL GIRLS 1,
WHITE COUNTY 1

The Lady Trojans and Lady Warriors battled to a draw on Tuesday in Cleveland.

Maddie Cook scored for North Hall.

Keeper Kadie Sullens yielded just one goal for the Lady Trojans .

North Hall plays host to Forsyth Central on Friday at the Brickyard.


LUMPKIN COUNTY BOYS 4,
LAKEVIEW 0

The Indians improved to 2-2 on the season with a win at Lakeview Academy.

Goalkeeper Alex Abbott and backs Esteban Ramirez, Sanquil Jackson, Justin Sweat and Myles Anderson led a solid defensive effort for Lumpkin.

Senior Chris Keys led the team with three goals in the match. Freshman Gage Benton also scored.

Lumpkin next faces White County at 2:45 p.m. Saturday.


JOHNSON BOYS 8,
WEST HALL 1

The Knights dominated the Spartans to take soccer's version of the Battle of Oakwood on Tuesday at West Hall.

Rigo Campa scored twice for Johnson, while Marco Vazquez, Villanel Albarran, Diego Chavez, David Flores, Miguel Rubio and Anthony Fleshman also scored one goal apiece.

Cooper Bowen also provided an assist for Johnson.

The Knights will play host to rival Gainesville on Friday in Oakwood.
