State lawmakers hope to fix transit problems in rural Georgia

State lawmakers are working to fix transit problems in rural parts of Georgia.

Anyone living outside of Atlanta without a car could run into significant transportation problems due to limited public transit options, according to the AJC.

The House Commission on Transit Governance and Funding hopes to find solutions that will limit state spending, such as private sector incentives like tax credits and transit subsidies for the unemployed living in small cities and rural areas. They hope it would help seniors who tend to have difficulty getting to appointments, students struggling to make it to class on time, or anyone who has trouble finding dependable transportation to work.

Dawsonville's State Representative Kevin Tanner heads the committee and says they've discussed many possible solutions. He said the committe plans to finalize their recommendations in December and present legislation during the upcoming General Assembly.
