Girls basketball: Banks, Lakeview, North Hall, Dawson, Stephens claim region wins on Tuesday

HOMER — The Banks County girls basketball team handled Elbert County for a 65-29 win on Tuesday that kept the Lady Leopards at the forefront of Region 8-AA.

Allison Smith scored 19 points, while Jaycie Bowen added 15 points for Banks County. Maddie Thomas also added 11 points in the win.

The Lady Leopards (18-4, 8-1 Region 8-AA) play host to Rabun County at 4 p.m. Saturday in Homer. 


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 57,
TALLULAH FALLS 49

The Lady Lions (14-7, 10-1 Region 8-A) pushed in front 34-29 at halftime and fended off the visitors for the win on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Sadie Thrailkil scored 24 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to go with 6 steals for Lakeview, while Maddie Towles added 11 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. Savannah Kinsey also chipped in with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

Lakeview travels to Providence Christian at 7 p.m. Friday for another 8-A game. 


DAWSON COUNTY GIRLS 60,
FANNIN COUNTY 47

The Lady Tigers sprinted to a 16-4 first quarter lead and then held on for the win on Tuesday in Blue Ridge.

Kaylee Sticker paced Dawson County with 16 points, while Chloe Bennett had 9 and Sophia D'Oliveira 8, as each Lady Tiger player scored in the contest.

Dawson County also held Fannin County to just two points in the third quarter.

The Lady Tigers travel to North Hall on Friday.


NORTH HALL GIRLS 57,
UNION COUNTY 47

The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Panthers 10-4 over the final 2:00 to seal the win on Tuesday in Blairsville.

Ansleigh Ferguson scored 17 of her game-high 24 in the second half to lead North Hall.

Kait McCarter paced Union County with 13 points. Brooke Dockrey added 11.

The Lady Panthers play host to East Hall on Friday

North Hall will battle Dawson County on Friday.


STEPHENS COUNTY GIRLS 36,
OCONEE COUNTY 35

The Lady Indians nabbed a last-second region victory on Tuesday.

Anaiah Wilson scored 9 points to lead Stephens County, while Nana Eades added 7.

The Lady Indians will play host to Madison County on Friday.


GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN GIRLS 57,
EAST HALL 40

Carly Winters led the scoring for the Lady Vikings (12-9, 5-3 Region 7-AAA) with 17 points. Ivey Shadburn also had 9 points in the loss.

East Hall plays at Union County on Friday night.


MARIST GIRLS 48,
CHESTATEE 33

Marist outscored the Lady War Eages 15-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away from a close contest on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Chestatee trailed just 33-29 after three quarters thanks in large part to the play of Lindsey Caudell, who scored a game-high 21 points -- including nine in the third quarter. Yet Marist held Caudell to two points in the fourth. Meanwhile, Marist's Diarra Oden scored nine of her game-high 22 in the fourth quarter, including a 7-for-7 performance at the free throw line.

Reese Damm also scored 16 for Marist.
