Two women have qualified to run for Hoschton City Council to fill the seat recently vacated by Scott Butler, who resigned due to conflicts with his business travel schedule.
Mary Susan Powers and Vanessa Hope Weeks will meet in a special election March 20 to fill the rest of Butler's term, City Clerk Wendy Wilson confirmed via email.
Butler's term runs through December 2019.
Hoschton residents who wish to vote in the election must be registered by February 20.
Wilson said city leaders are anticipating a second special election later this year, with Councilwoman Tracy Jordan expected to step down in May to make a run for Georgia Insurance Commissioner.
