Northeast Georgia Medical Center welcomes first baby of the year

GAINESVILLE - Hall County is starting the new year with a "pink bow", as 9-pound 5-ounce Maggie Ridgeway now has the distinction of being the first baby of 2018.

"Maggie" arrived at 3:10 A.M. New Year's morning.

Parents Casey and Cami Ridgeway live in Buford and traveled yesterday to the Gainesville campus of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in anticipation of their first child.

Mother Cami says she knew it was a girl and she hoped it would be the first baby of the year.

"I wanted the first baby of the year," Cami said.  "And that's what his (husband Casey) grandmother kept saying, that she was going to be the first baby of the year."

The Ridgeways are both 27-years-old and have been married a year and a half, having been Buford High School sweethearts and graduates.

"We're both nurses; I'm actually a nurse at Northeast Georgia-Barrow and he's a nurse at Northside."

Despite the medical background Cami said having her first baby was not exactly what she pictured, especially her time in labor.  "We did the math...total time with time at home was about 40-hours."

"That's a long time."

In the background the newborne was exercising her lungs and letting everyone within earshot know she was ready for life.  Congratulations Casey and Cami, the adventure is about to begin.
