White County wreck claims life of Demorest man

A wreck east of Cleveland just after 8 p.m. Sunday resulted in the death of a Habersham County man.

Robert Underwood, 26, of Demorest was driving a 1988 Toyota Camry eastbound on Black Road toward Lothridge Road, according to Cpl. Spencer Munger of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.

"Mr. Underwood ran a stop sign at the intersection of Lothridge Road and Black Road, traveling across the roadway," Munger said.

The front of Underwood's car struck a tree, then the vehicle rotated clockwise and came to rest in a pasture, according to Munger.

Underwood was pronounced dead on scene by medical personnel, Munger said.
