Hall County: Real and property tax bills to be mailed this week

Hall County real and property tax bills will be mailed two weeks earlier this year.

In past years, the bills were mailed October 1 and due December 1. This year, however, they will be mailed this week (September 15) and will be due November 15. Second notices will now be mailed on December 7 instead of December 31.

Those dates were changed back on February 9 by the Hall County Board of Commissioners. Tax Commissioner Darla Eden said in a press release the change in mailing and due dates will be beneficial both to the county and tax payers.

Aside from balancing high volumes of tax payers at the office paying both property and motor vehicle taxes around the due dates, Eden said it will also help with processing delays associated with the Thanksgiving holiday.

"There are more business days between Nov. 15 and Thanksgiving than there are between the holiday and Dec. 1, so we will be able to process all of the incoming mail by Thanksgiving rather than managing a 5-7 day backlog of mail after the holiday," she said.

Eden also said there should be a decrease in time between the tax digest being approved and the mailing of statements. She said the move will also create more efficiency for the Business License, Tax Assessors and Financial Services departments as well as the Hall County School System.

Citizens can pay their tax bills online, by mail, in person either at the counter or at the drop box, or over the phone for credit card and e-check payments.
