Cutout signs in Gainesville represent abused children

You may notice signs around Gainesville shaped like children and wearing a blue ribbon.  They're there to mark a child helped by the Edmondson-Telford Center for Children.

Center Director Heather Hayes said the signs are to bring attention to the issue of child abuse.

"They will be out and about on Green Street and Washington Street," Hayes said. "Each one has a name and age of a child who actually came through our doors."

Hayes said the signs represent the 276 children assisted by the center in 2016. Police cars in Gainesville and other law enforcement agencies will have blue ribbons on them as well.

Since opening in 2007, the center has served more than 10,000 children.
