By AccessWDUN staff
Forsyth County District 2 Commissioner and Vice Chairman Rick Swope has announced his resignation from the post, effective Tuesday afternoon.

Swope, who took office on January 1, recently accepted an executive position with E*TRADE.  The position has strict limits on outside business activity, including public service positions, according to a news release from the county.

A special election will be required to fill the remainder of Swope's term, which runs through December of 2020.

Swope, whose district covers much of south Forsyth County said he regrets not being able to complete the term.

"However, it has been an honor to have been a steward of this post and offer my time and talents toward a better representative government in Forsyth County," Swope said in the media release.

"Forsyth County has resources and potential that makes it the envy of counties across the nation and it has been nothing short of a humbling, distinct honor to serve as commissioner," Swope added.

The Forsyth County Commission is made up of five members, each living in a specific district and elected by district to serve four-year terms, according to the county.
