Cornelia police charge man with child crimes that occurred over three years

CORNELIA — A Cornelia man faces a number of serious charges for alleged child abuse.

Claudia Costro Ramos, 35, of Cornelia is charged with multiple counts of child molestation, aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, and aggravated sodomy, and with one count of rape, Cornelia Police Chief Chad Smith said Monday.

Ramos was booked in at the Habersham County Detention Center on the charges.

“Cornelia Police Department was informed by the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services of a report of possible child abuse that occurred in the city of Cornelia,” a written statement from Smith states. “The initial report was filed by the family of the child victim in Escondido, Calif., who has been assisting with this investigation.”

The case remains under investigation.

“All crimes were committed inside the city of Cornelia over a three-year period,” Smith’s statement reads.
