Habersham investigators seek public’s help to solve aquatic center burglary

CLARKESVILLE — The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office hopes someone from the public can help them find the person or persons responsible for the weekend burglary of the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center near Clarkesville.

Deputies were called to the facility, located at 120 Paul Franklin Road, about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 24, regarding a burglary that had occurred between 3 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

“Upon arrival, deputies discovered that several doors on the outside and inside of the building had been forced open,” said Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Wurtz on Monday. “Deputies also observed that several cabinets and drawers in the business office of the [Habersham County] Recreation Department and Total Fitness Center had been broken into.”

According to Wurtz, deputies interviewed the assistant director of the recreation department and the manager of Total Fitness and determined that money was missing. Additionally, there was an undetermined cost resulting from the damage to the doors and door jambs caused by forced entry.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Investigator Oxner of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 754-6666.
