By AccessWDUN Staff

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said an Atlanta man faces a number of charges after a deadly boating accident on Lake Blue Ridge over the weekend.

The agency told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Chad Phillip Haase, 44, has been charged with boating under the influence, homicide by vessel, serious injury by vessel and marijuana possession.

DNR officials said Haase was operating the boating at the time of the Saturday evening accident. It happened around 6 p.m. Haase apparently was towing the two victims behind the boat on a tube when the tube hit the shoreline.

The victim who died was identified as David Harvey Payseur III, 47, of Atlanta. A woman, identified as Deborah Brooks, 48, of Morgantown, was flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. The extent of her injuries was unknown.

Lake Blue Ridge is located in Fannin County.
