Annual reports mark widening of 400, new fire stations in Forsyth County

Highlighting milestones of 2016, Forsyth County is out with its annual reports for both the county and its fire department.

Director of Communications, Jodi Gardner, said the reports highlight projects, accomplishments and major events over the year.  One of the big ones on the county side is a major road project.

"The opening of the first portion of the widening of State Route 400, which certainly we have our citizens to thank for through their approval of the 2014 Forsyth County transportation bond," Gardner said.

On the fire side, Gardner said station infrastructure work was a highlight.

"Ground was broken in 2016 for two new fire stations, one being a replacement station in northeast Forsyth County and one being a brand new station in the south portion of the county.  Both of those stations have since opened."

Fire Chief Danny Bowman said service and the report are both points of pride for his department.

"It is designed to offer better insight into the many services our personnel provide and how the department is funded," Bowman said for the release.

The reports also feature statistics on funding, budgeting and other items.

"I hope this annual report – that includes everything from information about new facilities and parks to a breakdown of the county's spending in 2016 – better familiarizes residents with their county government and all the great work our employees do," Interim County Manager Tim Merritt said in a media release.

In addition to providing information to residents, Gardner said officials hope the reports are helpful tools for organizations in the county.
