Historic Enota Avenue elementary school is coming down

GAINESVILLE – “Demolition actually started on one end of the building earlier today,” said Adrian Niles, Director of Maintenance and Operations for Gainesville City Schools, “and is set to be complete by June 30th.”

Niles was updating the Gainesville City Schools Board of Education at their work session Monday evening on the status of the rebuilding of Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy.

Niles said the twelve month window for demolishing the 63-year old one-level school building and replacing it with a two-story state-of-the-art facility was off to a good start.  “A very quick turnaround,” is how Niles described it.

Niles displayed several aerial photographs of the first day’s work.  He said despite the large number of trees that were taken down in one of the photos new ones were ready to be planted, but in a different location.  “We’ve got some tree plantings to do in a buffer area.”

Niles mentioned that a meeting was being scheduled for the near future with residents living in the immediate area of the project.

“The idea is to have a community information meeting,” Niles told board members, “just to share with them some ideas, protocols, and to give some contact information for questions that might arise during the building process.”

“Again, just trying to be good neighbors,” Niles added.
