Colorado officials arrest White County man wanted for Cornelia, Clermont bank robberies

CORNELIA — A month after warrants were obtained for Michael Anthony Gordon, 47, of White County for bank robberies in Cornelia and Clermont, he has been arrested in another state.

On Wednesday, Cornelia Police Chief Chad Smith confirmed Gordon’s arrest in Colorado, saying he doesn’t have a lot of details of the capture.

Gordon is wanted in connection with the 2:30 p.m. robbery of the South State Bank branch inside Ingles in Cornelia on Wednesday, April 26.

Warrants were issued Thursday, April 27, for armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a statement from Smith issued at that time.

“This is the same individual that the Hall County Sheriff’s Office has active warrants on for robbing the United Community Bank in Clermont on April 5, 2017,” Smith said.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office will be working to extradite Gordon back to Georgia to face the charges, Smith said.
