Dawsonville man charged in head-on crash

A Dawsonville man faces charges, including driving under the influence of drugs, following a head-on traffic accident Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The roughly 7:00 a.m. crash involved two pickup trucks on Ga. 136/Price Road just south of Henry Grady Highway near Toto Creek Park in Dawson County, according to Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Casey Coffee.

Dustin Watkins, 41, was headed north on Price Road when he allegedly failed to maintain his lane, according to Coffee.  Watkins' 1999 Dodge Ram ended up on the wrong side of the road, hitting a 2006 Ford F250 head-on.

Watkins and the Ford driver, Jose Valenzuela-Galvan, 22, of Gainesville, were both transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

A passenger in Watkins' pickup, Dana Holland, 37, of Dawsonville, was also injured and taken to the medical center.  Holland was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Coffee.

All three people suffered serious injuries.

"Mr. Watkins was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, 2 counts of serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, seatbelt violation, and no proof of insurance," Coffee wrote in an email to AccessWDUN.
