Braselton PD: Missing girl found safe in Buford

By AccessWDUN Staff

Braselton police are not discussing the circumstances surrounding the case of a 14-year-old girl who went missing from her home Tuesday afternoon, but they said she is safe and has been returned to her parents.

Police Chief Terry Esco confirmed that Maria Leggiero was spotted by a passerby just after 12 p.m. Wednesday. The girl was sitting in a gazebo near a subdivision on Hamilton Mill Road in Buford. Esco said the woman called 911 and Braselton police went to the scene to retrieve the girl.

Leggiero went missing around 4 p.m. Tuesday from her home in the Legends neighborhood of Chateau Elan Estates.

Authorities got a call from her parents around 7:15 p.m., saying their daughter had disappeared.

Esco said in addition to Braselton officers, authorities from the GBI and local law enforcement in neighboring counties searched for the girl throughout the night Tuesday and during the morning hours on Wednesday.
