Truett softball eliminated from AAC Tournament

By AccessWDUN Staff

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — The Truett McConnell softball team played a 25-hour game with rain delays and six extra innings included and defeated Bryan, 4-3, in 13. The Bears had to turn around and play again an hour later and fell to Tennessee Wesleyan, 5-0, to end their run in the AAC Tournament.

After a half inning yesterday, the Bears and Lions went into multiple rain delays and, despite the best efforts by the field crew in Kingsport, the field would not become playable after rain poured for two hours on the field. TMU and Bryan attempted to restart early this morning, but the field still needed time to dry, forcing an 11 a.m. start.

Bryan put up three quick runs in the second inning, but the Bears chipped away at the lead, scoring single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 3-3.

Neither team could break through in regulation or in the first five extra innings despite both teams getting runners in scoring position. The Bears finally broke through in the 13th on three huge hits. Milly Martinet started it off with a single off the fence in right field. After a Reba Jones double to left, Peyton Wilson brought home the game-winning run with a double of her own.

The Bears put up a big fight against the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan, but couldn't push a runner across despite loading the bases twice in the game.

TMU finished the season at 27-19 overall.
