GBI: Foul play not suspected in Mt. Airy death

Initial results of an autopsy performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation State Crime Lab in Decatur on a woman who died at a Mt. Airy home last week revealed no signs of wrongdoing in her death.

“The autopsy results are pending further forensic testing,” said GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles. “At this point in the investigation, no foul play is suspected.”

Officials at the scene of the death of Christina Dowdy, 38, at the McConnell Street home where she lived in Mt. Airy requested investigative assistance from the state after responding to a call at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

Interim Mt. Airy Police Chief Tim Jarrell said he is thankful for the help his department received from other agencies on the case.

“I just want to thank GBI Region 8 and their crime scene specialists, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and the Habersham County Coroner’s Office for their assistance in the investigation,” Jarrell said. “We would like for the citizens to know that we are here to serve them in the best way possible. Many times, that requires us to reach out to other entities, but we all have the same goal of providing the highest level of service.”
