Some Jackson EMC customers still without power after Wednesday storms

Jackson EMC reports that 426 members are without power since storms and strong winds swept through the state Wednesday and Thursday.

Spokeswoman April Sorrow said in an email statement that as of 1 p.m., 131 members in Gwinnett, 63 members in Jackson, 34 members in Hall and 5 members in Banks counties were without power, along with customers in Clarke and Madison counties.

At the height of the storm, Sorrow said 2,762 customers were without power.

Sorrow said line crews continue working on the remaining outages as conditions and safety allow. She said Wednesday's rainfall saturated the ground, causing new problems Thursday with trees falling on power lines due to strong winds.

Meanwhile, Hart EMC crews are still working to restore power to 238 members at 3 p.m. in their service area of portions of Banks, Elbert, Franklin, Hart, Madison and Stephens counties, down from 3,947 at 4:30 a.m. and 2,539 at 8 a.m.
