Gainesville woman jailed on Helen drug charges

A Gainesville woman remains jailed in White County after being arrested on drug charges at a Helen motel on Wednesday.

Helen Police Chief Brian Stephens first announced the arrest Thursday, and on Friday identified the woman as Tammy Kay Leonard, 47. She is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug-related objects.

Acting on a tip, Helen police served a search warrant at a motel room, resulting in the seizure of more than five ounces of methamphetamine, scales, needles and other drug paraphernalia.

The street value of the drugs is more than $14,000, Stephens said.

Bond was denied for Leonard on Thursday, Stephens said.
