Boys basketball: Dawson, North Hall, Branch, Lakeview each take region wins

DAHLONEGA — The Dawson County boys basketball team edged ahead in the first quarter and kept pulling away for a 58-38 win over Lumpkin County on Tuesday in Dahlonega.

The victory gave the Tigers (4-2, 1-0 Region 7-AAA) a winning start to play in Region 7-AAA.

Cullen Reed scored 19 points to pace Dawson County, while Jeremiah Crumley added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Ryan Gallenkamp also socred 9 and grabbed 8 rebounds.

The Tigers seized control in the second quarter, outscoring the Indians 19-5 to take a 32-13 lead into the half.

Dawson County will play host to Fannin County on Friday.

Lumpkin County will look to rebound against Gilmer on Saturday.


NORTH HALL BOYS 60,
FANNIN COUNTY 27

The Trojans (4-2, 1-1 Region 7-AAA) shut down the Rebels via a strong defensive effort on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Meanwhile, Noah Holman scored 16 points to lead North Hall's offense. Taylor Hanson added 13 for the Trojans.

The Trojans will face Union County on Friday at home.


FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 53,
LOGANVILLE 28

Justin Quick poured in 21 points to lead the Falcons (5-2, 2-0 Region 8-AAAAA) in a lopsided win on Tuesday. Patsheko Lutumba also scored 9 points for the Branch. 

The Branch will travel to face Buford on Friday.

(The Falcons will also take on Cedar Shoals on Saturday, Jan. 13 in a make-up after that scheduled region contest was postponed on Friday.)


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 72,
ATHENS ACADEMY 61

Adam Cottrell totalled 19 points and 4 steals as the Lions (2-3, 1-0 Region 8-A) opened league play with a win on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Drew Cottrell also scored 14 points for Lakeview, while Arturo Varela put up 13 points and 8 rebounds and Jack Blackburn had 9 points and 7 assists.

Lakeview plays host to Commerce at 8:30 p.m. Friday.


JEFFERSON BOYS 66,
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 51

Jacob Radaker put up 22 points to pace the Dragons (3-5) to the win on Tuesday. Jamal Meadows also scored 15 and Jasper Gibson 11 for Jefferson.

Dontarious Bailey led Habersham with 15 points.

Jefferson will travel to Madison County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.


BANKS COUNTY BOYS 71,
MADISON COUNTY 41

The Leopards moved to 5-0 in a comprehensive win on Tuesday night.

Carl Cleveland paced a balanced scoring effort for Banks, putting up 22 points, while Dylan Orr scored 15. Gabe Martin also added 12 points and Noah Rylee 8 in the win.

The Leopards travel to face East Hall on Wednesday.
