Former Hall County emergency director won't face local charges

The former Hall County Emergency Management Director, fired in October over violation of county policy, will not face criminal charges in Hall County, authorities said Thursday.

In a statement after his dismissal, David Kimbrell said his personal computer had backed up to the county network with a file considered inappropriate by the county.  County officials turned their findings over to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

While no charges are forthcoming in Hall County, authorities forwarded information developed in their investigation to the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department for investigation there, according to Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Stephen Wilbanks.

"They currently have the case, and at this time there will be no further action taken by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office," Wilbanks said in an email.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police officials weren't immediately available for comment on Thursday.

Kimbrell had served as emergency management director since 2014.  In the past, he'd worked as fire chief, fire marshal and firefighter in Hall County.

"I am at fault for the inadvertent policy violation because the file at one time was on my computer (but was deleted several years ago)," Kimbrell stated. "There was no criminal activity and will only result in a significant embarrassment," Kimbrell stated in October.
