Falcons' Clayborn named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

By AccessWDUN Staff

Atlanta Falcons defensive end Adrian Clayborn was awarded NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Week 10 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Clayborn set a franchise record with six sacks in Atlanta’s, 27-7, win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10. He became the fourth player to record six-or-more sacks in a single game since sacks became an official statistic in 1982. Clayborn is the first player to record six sacks since Osi Umenyiora accomplished the feat against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2007. Clayborn topped former Falcons Claude Humphrey (two times – pre-1982) and Chuck Smith (1997) for the club record of five and ran his season sack total to a career-high eight sacks. He also forced two fumbles – recovering one – made three tackles for loss, and logged seven quarterback hits.

Clayborn is the second defensive player to win the player of the week award for the Falcons this season – cornerback Desmond Trufant won in Week 2. Clayborn is the first Falcons defensive end to win a Defensive Player of the Week Award since John Abraham in 2011.
