Suwanee city council to name mayor pro-tem, set qualifying fees at next meeting

The start of a new calendar year usually includes a number of house keeping items for local governments, and Suwanee City Council is no different.

At its next meeting Jan. 24, council will name a new mayor pro-tempore, who will fill in when the mayor is unable to fulfill his duties, and set the qualifying fees for the upcoming municipal election.

Councilwoman Linnea Miller currently serves as the mayor pro-tem, according to Marty Allen, city manager.

Allen said the city isn't planning to raise its current qualifying fee of $270 for council seats, three of which are up for grabs in this year's municipal elections Nov. 7.

Posts 3, 4 and 5 will be decided this year, which are currently held by Miller, Beth Hilscher and Dan Foster, respectively.

Qualifying for the election begins Aug. 21.
