Gwinnett County Schools to hold job fair, looking to hire 1,000+ teachers

The Gwinnett County school system is looking to hire more than 1,000 teachers for the 2016-17 school year, and officials are hosting a job fair March 26 in an effort to fill those positions.

It will be held from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Infinite Energy Center in Duluth, according to Bernard Watson, GCPS spokesman.

There is no cost to attend, and those looking for a job must be certified by August in the fields of math, science, special education, elementary, Spanish, French, language arts, speech language pathology or career and technical specialists.

Watson said in an email that "(m)ath, science,
special education, foreign language, and speech and language pathology are in high demand at all levels."

He added that language arts teachers are in high demand for both middle and high schools, while career and technical specialists are in high demand at the high school level.

Starting pay for teachers with a bachelor's degree in Gwinnett is $41,028, while those with a master's make $45,850 starting out.

Watson said the system's compensation package and district-funded supplemental retirement plan are comparable to other school systems in metro-Atlanta.
