Gainesville City Council: Plenty in store for city in 2017

The last Gainesville City Council meeting of the year took place Tuesday with everyone wishing each other a Merry Christmas and a look at what 2017 will bring to the city.

“We have a lot going on,” City Manager Bryan Lackey said. “It’s going to be a busy year in 2017.”

In January, the city is going to release a request for proposal to see what kind of interest there is for a mixed-use project on either of the two empty lots along Main Street.

There will also be bids made for the city’s Main Street streetscaping project.

In addition to the work on Main Street, the first phase of the Atlanta Street Home Complex demolition will be set in motion.

And in February, the city plans to redo the crosswalks at E.E. Butler and Jesse Jewel Parkway.

“The folks in Gainesville are going to see a lot of projects starting to move in the first quarter of next year,” Lackey said.
