Teen identified as victim in Dawson County wreck

DAWSONVILLE - The identity of the man killed in a fiery car accident has been released by the Georgia State Patrol.

Trooper John Getty said Wednesday that 19-year-old Caleb Millwood of Ellijay was the victim in the one-vehicle wreck just a mile past the Dawson County line on Highway 52.

Getty said Millwood drifted off to the right of the highway, then over-corrected and swerved off to the left, losing control of his car.

"The front of the vehicle struck a tree," said Getty. "The vehicle rotated counter-clockwise and struck a second tree with the right side of the vehicle... and ignited into flames."

Getty said three people traveling the same route stopped to help when they saw the vehicle on fire with Millwood still inside.

"The three men cut the seat belt and removed the driver to a safe location," Getty said. "[He] was partially burned. Other drivers on the roadway stopped to assist. One man, a doctor, performed and instructed CPR."

Getty said the driver was in critical condition for nearly an hour as the man attempted to stabilize him for transport. Millwood also received treatment by Dawson and Gilmer County EMS, however, Millwood succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Getty said the accident is still under investigation.
