CLARKESVILLE - The Habersham County Commission on Monday paused to honor and recognize the life of former Commission Chairman Dewey H. Tench, who died Oct. 31.
Tench served as a county commissioner for 16 years, was a founding member of the Habersham County Sheriff's Posse, served in the Habersham County Sheriff's Reserve until 2012, was a member of Cornelia Lodge No. 92 F. & A.M., and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Additionally, he served on the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission Board from 1987-2002, and was board chairman from 1994-1996. During that time, he served on several committees.
"Mr. Tench left a lasting impression both professionally and in the relationships he developed in his personal life," Harper said.
Tench, 88, was a World War II veteran was retired owner/operator of 441 Tire and Alignment.
"Therefore be it proclaimed that the Habersham County Board of Commissioners hereby acknowledges and appreciates the life of Dewey H. Tench and his many contributions to Habersham County," Harper read. "His dedication to public service should be an example to all."
After Harper read it, the proclamation was presented to Tench's sons, Lowell, Marcus and Michael.
