ATLANTA (AP) Georgia's senators say they're disappointed that the president won't re-nominate Georgia Court of Appeals Judge Michael Boggs for a federal post.
Republican U.S. Sens. Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss issued a joint statement Wednesday saying President Barack Obama's chief of staff told them in November that Judge Michael Boggs wouldn't be re-nominated to serve in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
Boggs was a Democratic state lawmaker roughly a decade ago and represented Waycross. Democrats opposed Obama's selection of Boggs last year, highlighting positions he took as a state lawmaker on abortion, same-sex marriage and the Confederate flag.
Isakson and Chambliss recommended Boggs to serve in federal court to fill one of several vacancies on the bench.
