LAVONIA - The driver of a tractor trailer was killed in an early-morning crash on Interstate 85 southbound in Franklin County Wednesday.<br />

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Richard Fleming said the rig, which was pulling two trailers, left the west side of the interstate near Mile Marker 172 for an unknown reason and hit some trees, catching fire. The crash occurred around 6 a.m., according to Fleming.<br />

The driver of the rig was pronounced dead at the scene. <br />
<br />
The identity of the driver has not yet been released. An autopsy will be performed on the body of the driver to determine the cause of death.<br />
<br />
As of noon Wednesday, the Georgia State Patrol remained on the scene of the accident, removing wreckage from the crash site.
