Local law enforcement to participate in National Night Out

GAINESVILLE - Law enforcement agencies all over the nation are participating in National Night Out tomorrow, including the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

National Night Out is a crime prevention event, designed to strengthen alliances between law enforcement and community members.

"It forms an awareness. It also forms a bond between the deputies, the law enforcement officers, investigators and the general public and just lets them know we're there for them as they are for us," said Hall County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chad Mann.

The event will display several tools the agency uses, such as the mobile command unit, the SWAT truck and a motorized patrol unit. "What we'd like to do is show [the community] some of the tools we have to work with as an agency," said Mann. There will also be the opportunity to meet law enforcement officers.

"We're going to have something out there tangible for them to see what's in the neighborhood," said Mann. "That's what we want people to do: know that we are tangible, we are there for them and it's something that we hope will last for years to come."

The event will take place from 5 pm to 8 pm in the Target parking lot on Shallowford Road in Gainesville.
