Georgia Supreme Court upholds life sentence for Suwanee man

SUWANEE - The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld a life sentence earlier this month for a Suwanee man convicted of killing his live-in girlfriend and then setting fire to their home to conceal her death.

David Robert Norton wanted to appeal his convictions and sentences for malice murder, arson, criminal attempt to commit the crime of concealing the death of another, possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer, and possession
of a firearm during the commission of a felony. All of the charges were in connection to the murder of his girlfriend, Amy Ayers.

The court affirmed his sentence.

Norton was convicted in 2007 and found guilty in 2009. He received life in prison for the malice murder, 20 year for arson and five years each for attempting to conceal the death of another, possession of a firearm for a first offender and possession of a firearm during a felony.
